Improvement works to take place on A70
Published: Monday 3 March 2025

Residents around Lanark are being urged to take note of an upcoming road closure in their area to carry out essential repairs.
The A70 Ayr Road between its junctions with the A73 and A743 will close on Monday 10 March at 8am for up to five days to allow carriageway surfacing and lining works to take place.
No motor vehicles (except those engaged in the work and emergency service vehicles) will be able to park or drive on the road during this time.
The signed diversion route will be as follows: A73, Hyndford Road, Wellgate, Lanark High Street, St Leonards Street, A743 and vice-versa.
Head of Roads, Transportation and Fleet Services, Colin Park, said: “We are aware of the disruption and would ask road users to avoid the area if possible.
“If they cannot, we would ask that they leave extra time for their journeys and note the diversion route in place.
“We hope all road users will appreciate the long-term benefits of this work when it is completed. Your patience and understanding during the works would be much appreciated.”
